Surrounded by beautiful countryside, there are fantastic walking opportunities close by. Enjoy a circular walk around Loughrigg Tarn or follow the riverside path to picturesque Elterwater. From here you can continue to the pretty village of Chapel Stile, the gateway to the magnificent Langdale Valley. For a longer day out on the fell tops, avid hikers should head for Wansfell Pike and the challenging Fairfield Horseshoe.
A 15-minute drive will take you into bustling Ambleside. With its array of outdoor and independent shops, it's perfect for a spot of retail therapy. Neighbouring Bowness-on-Windermere has plenty of attractions, including The World of Beatrix Potter. Why not catch the ferry across the lake to Hawkshead? Another charming Lakeland village where you can visit Potter's former home at Hilltop. Head north to Keswick, the adventure capital of The Lakes, or south to Kirkby Lonsdale, a pretty market town that's home to poet Ruskin's favourite view.
